Maker of pool cues from 1995 to present in Jackson, Michigan.
Dave Czarnecki learned to play pool as a young boy in his grandfather´s pool room. His grandfather told him of the stories about the great players of the past to heighten his interest. Dave tried to make his first cue when he was still a boy. As an adult, Dave became a printer, but he still wanted to make cues. In 1993 he started to learn cuemaking from Dennis Dieckman, who lives nearby. He still credits Dennis for teaching him the art, and tries to make every cue just the way Dennis taught him.
In the past, Dave worked two jobs and made cues part time, mainly as a hobby. In October of 2003 he retired from printing. Dave now has more time to spend on making fancier cues. Instead of making custom orders, Dave prefers to make cues of his own design and offer them for sale. He marks his cues with "Zar" logos on the butt caps, and they have their own unique look. Dave prefers to use wood handles on his cues, and refuses to use ivory at all. Most Zar cues utilize bird´s-eye maple, ebony, and purpleheart. Dave bought a state-of-the-art CNC machine in 1997, and he is still working on mastering it. All Zar shafts are turned over a dozen times over the course of two years to prevent warpage and ensure optimum playability, which is Dave´s primary concern.
Dave donates approximately three to four cues per year to charitable causes in the Jackson, Michigan area. He enjoys being able to use his hobby to benefit his community.
New Zar cues can be returned upon delivery if the customer is not satisfied. Zar cues are guaranteed for life against construction defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse to the original owner. If you have a Zar cue that needs further identification or repair, or would like to talk to Dave about ordering a new Zar cue, contact Zar Cues, listed in the trademark index.
