Maker of pool cues from 1996 to present in Sproat Lake, BC Canada.
Scott Zachow has been building cues in his one-man shop located on Sproat Lake, north of Port Alberni, BC since 1996. Dreaming about cue design since he picked up his first cue at the age of 16, Scott purchased his first lathe from a mail-order magazine. The lathe came with an instructional video which Scott watched over and over. For the first year he felt as if he were creating very expensive pieces of firewood. At the time, Scott´s full time job was construction, and cuemaking was just a hobby. Self-taught in the fine art of cue design, Scott is now one of Canada´s premiere custom cuemakers and has been able to make this his full-time profession. Originally serving only the local market on Vancouver Island, his cues have found their way into the hands of players throughout Canada, the United States and Asia.
His backyard shop has expanded to include five lathes, milling machines, pantograph, a ventilated spray booth, and many other specialized tools, designed and built by Scott himself. Scott specializes in one-of-a-kind custom cues, which are truly handcrafted. All of the inlays are done with a manual pantograph and no CNC machines will be found in Scott´s shop. Materials that are used in the construction include, but are not limited to, exotic hardwoods, ivory, stainless steel, and turquoise, to name just a few. Great pains are taken to create each masterpiece, but only the cues that meet Scott´s high standards earn the Zac Cues label. He believes the hit, feel, and playability of the cue is the most important aspect. The craftsmanship and clinical construction techniques applied to every cue have been honed after years of real world experience and playing the game.
Zac cues are easily identifiable by his logo or signature. The standard logo on Scott´s cues is "Zac" (the first three letters of Zachow). That logo has appeared on most Zac cues made since 1998. Scott will sign his cues instead if the customer requests.
