Maker of pool cues from the early 1970s to 2001 in Sacramento, California.
As a kid, Terry Stonier learned to play three-cushion billiards at his next-door neighbor´s house. He continued to play the game, and became one of the better billiard players in the Sacramento area. Terry worked at his father´s restaurant, and dreamed of opening his own restaurant someday. In 1967, he opened Jointed Cue Billiards, a 19-table pool room famous for its cheeseburgers.
Terry continued to play pool, but was dissatisfied with the cues he was using. So, in the early 1970s, he started making his own. Since then, Stonier´s cues have gone through constant improvements for the sake of playability, which is the most important factor. Stonier´s cues are identifiable by their unique joint screw, which Terry custom made to his specifications. They are marked "Stonier´s Cues, Sacramento" under the wrap for positive identification.
Terry was making less than 100 cues per year with the help of his son, Dave, who also did the repairs. They promoted tournaments in their pool room where they also sold commercial cues and tables. Then Terry Stonier died in 2001. Dave continues to do repair work but has not yet started making cues. He hopes to start making Stonier´s Custom cues again in the next few years.
Stonier´s cues were guaranteed indefinitely against construction defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse. Dave will still honor this guarantee. If you have a Stonier cue that needs further identification or repair, contact Stonier´s Custom Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
