Maker of pool cues from 1993 to present, currently in Tempe, Arizona.
Sierra Custom cue was founded in 1992 by Eric Niemira and Dave Corbett. They began as avid pool players, each with an interest in cuemaking, each possessing certain talents that helped them get started. Eric had machining skills and technical background in engineering while Dave had experience with engineering and AutoCAD. Each operation in the building of a cue was analyzed and then mastered. From the beginning, Sierra Custom Cue makers have had their own opinion as to how a cue should play, and they have made constant improvements in their construction. Sierra cues are painstakingly handmade with extreme attention to detail and playability. All Sierra cues are constructed using the finest exotic hardwoods and select maple shafts. Highlights of assembly include bored and cut threads over drilled and tapped threads to improve thread strength and playability. Shafts are thoroughly aged and have threaded capped ferrules and cut threads at the joint for a solid connection when the cue is assembled.
Playability of the cue is of utmost importance to Sierra Custom Cues. In an effort to achieve this goal, only woods that they feel "play well" are used. Some of the woods used include rosewood, ebony and padauk. The use of two different handle woods is also incorporated, a heavy one and a light one, consisting of purpleheart and padauk respectively. This allows them to minimize the long connecting pins to try to compensate for weight not made from wood. Weight and balance are built into the cue and no adjustment is allowed by means of a weight bolt due to the feeling that no adjustment will ever be necessary and balance is more critical than weight.
Sierra Custom Cues has some of the most advanced technology in the industry with regards to inlay. A machining center, coupled with the latest in CAM software, allows them to inlay cues with aerospace precision and intricacy. This flexibility allows them to take a conceptual idea to an inlaid cue in a very short amount of time, making their cues unique. Sierra Custom Cues welcomes the opportunity to work with customers on designing their cues. Sierra design style may be characterized by its neo-tribal look accented by silver and materials such as turquoise and malachite. All Sierra cues are then sprayed with a very durable and high gloss finish and then hand-polished. Sierra cues are easily identifiable by their unique Sierra bumpers which have the year of completion molded into them.
If you have a Sierra cue that needs further identification or repair, or would like to order a new Sierra cue, contact Sierra Custom Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
