SHOWMAN CUSTOM CUES
Maker of pool cues from 1992 to present in Safety Harbor, Florida.
John L. Showman grew up in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. He started playing pool as a teenager, and by age 15 John was putting on his own tips. Soon he was putting on tips for his friends as well. John liked the custom cues he saw in the local pool rooms, but he couldn´t afford one. In 1989, John moved to Florida and became friends with Rocky Tillis. John learned basic cue construction techniques while helping out in Rocky´s shop. John made his first cue in 1992.
Now John makes less than thirty cues a year in his spare time in the one-car garage he has turned into a shop. He also works full time as a machine operator. He is a fan of the great cuemakers of the past, and Showman cues are inspired by traditional cues. All work is done by hand, primarily on antique equipment, and John makes everything except the tips, screws, and bumpers. All inlays are done by hand, but John has plans to get a manual pantograph. John is very proud of his blanks, which have long and even points that are plain or have five veneers. John tapers his shafts for a very stiff hit. Showman cues are identifiable by "Showman" stamped in super small letters on the joint screw and usually on one of the rings. John can even stamp the customer´s name on a ring in this manner if they wish.
Showman Cues are guaranteed for life against manufacturing defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse. If you have a Showman cue that needs further identification or repair, or would like to order a new Showman cue, contact Showman Custom Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
