Maker of pool cues from 1987 to present in Medford, Oregon.
Ron Kilby started making sneaky petes and jump-break cues in 1985. Since 1987 Ron has created cues for players of every level. Cue building was a natural transition for him, since he had been a woodworking hobbyist and had done cue repairs. In 1995 he began to focus on carom cues, with their traditional wood-thread joint and characteristics distinct from pool cues. His designs span a wide range, from traditional butterfly points to avant garde cues including precious stones, scrimshaw ivory exotic inlays, and eight-segment laminated and graphite shafts. Pool and three-cushion players prefer wood shafts, while balkline and straight rail players sometimes prefer the graphite shafts. The graphite shafts are only 2.5 ounces, resulting in cues that can weigh under 15 ounces. They are also very stiff. He builds cues for playability first, with classical designs being prominent in his work.
Ron has a relatively small and rather crowded shop. He produces cues and guitars at the same time. His work, particularly in the carom world, has become instantly recognizable. All Kilby cues since 1993 have a small mylar decal on the buttcap, "RK", for identification. Cues before 1993 were hand-etched under the rubber bumper.
Kilby sells custom-designed cues as well as those displayed in his catalog. He still makes pool cues using a wood-thread joint. There are usually one or two in the current inventory. Ron Kilby also makes a three-piece cue for traveling.
Kilby Cues are warrantied for workmanship for life. Warping and obvious abuse are not covered.
If you are interested in talking to Ron about a new cue or cue that needs to be repaired, you can contact him at Kilby Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
