Maker of pool cues from 1992 to 1993 in Muncie, Indiana, from 1993 to 1998 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and from 1998 to present in Noblesville, Indiana.
Mike Stacey started his cuemaking business in Muncie, Indiana, while majoring in criminal justice in college. It started as a repair business at age 19 at Indiana tournaments, using some of the skills he learned in his high school wood shop class. Mike loved playing in pool tournaments since high school and enjoyed working with his hands. He also worked at a pool hall while in college. When friends saw Mike working on his own cues, they opted to bring him theirs to work on as well. Jobs became more complex, and finally it evolved into a part-time cuemaking business. Mike still works full time as a restaurant manager.
Mike is self-taught, and he strives to make the best cue that he can. He also tries to improve upon his cues every time. Mike´s shop is in his two-and-a-half-car garage, attached to his house. It is very convenient for him to work anytime. He has several lathes for both metal and wood, band saws, table saw, drill press, mill, spray booth, and a CNC for inlays only. He makes his own short-spliced blanks, and prefers cues with six or eight points. His four-point cues have more traditional designs, usually with stainless 5/16-14 piloted joints. He prefers cues that are forward balanced. Mike does all of the work in his one-man shop except when Mike´s wife, Kelley, signs and dates all of his cues, as Mike doesn´t like his handwriting. His goal is to make a good hitting cue at a good price.
Mike is also known for his repair work. His specialty is repairing damaged or broken cues. He gets a lot of referrals from other cuemakers to repair cues that require a lot of work. He enjoys getting a cue that is in pieces and being able to make it playable again.
M. Stacey cues are guaranteed for life against all manufacturer´s defects and warpage. If you are interested in talking to Mike Stacey about a new cue or cue that needs to be repaired, you can contact him at M. Stacey Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
