JERRY OLIVIER HAND CRAFTED CUSTOM CUES
Maker of pool cues from 1995 to present in Pearland, Texas.
Jerry Olivier has been obsessed with the game of pool since he was a kid. Growing up, he played as often as he could for as long as he could. He liked to play in local amateur tournaments, and won many of the events he entered. After finishing school, Jerry went to work for Dow Chemical, working with chemical formulas and computer programs. He worked four days on and four days off, giving him plenty of time to play pool. He liked cues and started doing cue repairs in his garage as a hobby. Soon cues were his new obsession and by 1995 Jerry made his first one.
Jerry enjoyed cuemaking much better than his job with Dow, so when the time was right he took an early retirement package after 13 years with the company. 1n 1997, he invested everything he received into a new 1500-square-foot shop with all-new equipment. Jerry now makes about 150 to 200 cues per year. He has produced a catalogue with a line of twelve cues, but these cues are mainly used as a starting point for custom orders. Jerry is always creating new designs, and makes many one-of-a-kind custom cues in his one-man shop. Jerry likes to use ivory, and will not use any substitutes. Aside from linen fiber ferrules on cues under $1,200, if it´s white on a Jerry Olivier cue, it is ivory. This is true for the inlays, joints, and butt caps as well.
Jerry Olivier cues are easily recognizable by the "Jerry Olivier" signature that has appeared on all but a handful of his cues. Occasionally he will add the date after the signature. He is proud of the quality of his leather wraps and takes great care in selecting the hides and applying them to the cues. Jerry strives to make the best cue he can, and will stand behind any problems that are not the fault of the customer.
In 2005 Jerry designed and built a new UV paint booth so he could start applying a UV finish to his cues. The new finish is more durable and has a more brilliant shine than the PPG finish he was using before.
Jerry tries to attend every major tournament and billiard event in the U.S. that he can. He usually makes cues for about a month and then attends tournaments and trade shows for about a month. He has a website that he keeps tabs on, and will e-mail pictures of individual cues that customers are interested in.
Jerry Olivier Hand Crafted Custom Cues are guaranteed for life against manufacturing defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse.
