Maker of pool cues from 1995 to present in Augusta, Georgia.
Gary Dawkins was born in El Paso, Texas and raised in southern California. He served as a medic during the Vietnam conflict. He moved to Georgia in 1969 and became a licensed master plumber and general contractor. Gary always liked working with his hands and eventually decided to retire from construction. Since he loved to play pool and work with his hands, he became a cuemaker. His work is influenced by Paul Mottey, Bludworth, and Arnot.
Gary started out wanting to make his own cue, since he loved the game. He wanted a cue that would be different from everyone else´s. He quickly learned that there is a lot more to building a cue than he thought at first. He bought a lathe and inlay pantograph machine and learned how to use them properly, and then he built his first cue and began playing with it.
As time went on, other players would ask Gary to fix cues they had. They would try Gary´s cue, love the way it hit, and ask if Gary would build one for them. And so, GD Cues was born. GD cues is a one-man shop and Gary makes cues full time as of 2000, when Gary retired from another job. All inlays are done by hand with a pantograph. Gary does not have CNC. He is a gun stock engraver and he hand engraves the wood and steel joints in cues as well.
GD cues are guaranteed against construction defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse for life to the original owner. If you are interested in talking to Gary Dawkins about a new cue or cue that needs to be repaired, you can contact him at GD Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
