Maker of pool cues from 1995 to present in Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Richard "Chip" Albery Jr. has always enjoyed working with wood. The process of creating a pool cue was a well-guarded secret that intrigued him. He wanted to learn how to make a cue with a hit and proper balance that he would enjoy using. Chip developed his own cue-building techniques after working with Phoenix Custom Cues, Dale Teague, and, more recently, with Prather Cues. Chip has blended some of their techniques with his own to form a distinctive method of building a high quality custom cue. He is currently working with Prather Cue on a handbook for cuemakers.
Albery Custom Cues are marked with a logo that is milled into every butt cap and filled with colored putty. Chip strives to make a cue that plays well because of balance and hit properties, and one that will stand out among the many cues available today. He uses exotic woods such as curly teak, black palm, and desert ironwood and also creates special inlay patterns that are unique to Albery Custom Cues. Each Albery cue is custom and no two are alike.
Chip´s shop consists of several lathes which are modified for cue construction. He has a one-man shop that is equipped with saws, compressor, HVLP spray gun and industrial buffer for finishing the cues. Chip keeps a two-year supply of wood in stock to assure dimensional stability due to low moisture content.
Chip Albery cues are guaranteed for life against manufacturing defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse, and the cues are guaranteed for one year against warpage due to wood movement. If you are interested in talking to Richard "Chip" Albery Jr. about a new cue or cue that needs to be repaired, you can contact him at Albery Custom Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
