Maker of pool cues from 1994 to present in Okeechobee, Florida.
Dale Breland was a good pool player with a woodworking hobby. He made some custom furniture part time. Dale did cue repair work for years and his customers kept asking him to make cues for them. He finally started making cues part time in 1994, when he was still working as a wire lathe contractor, and has been building them full-time since 1999. Early Breland cues were unmarked, but Dale started signing them on the forearm by 1995. A few of Dale´s early cues had stainless steel joints. He now uses a wood tenon instead of the metal screw he used to join the handle to the forearm until 1997. Aegis ferrules were used until 1998, when they were discontinued in favor of Ivorine 3. Dale owns his own pool room in Okeechobee, which he opened in 1997. It features a back bar that Dale built out of Pennsylvania red oak.
Dale moved to Fort Meyers, Florida in 2001. He built a 1,500-square-foot shop with a couple lathes, a band saw for cutting veneers, a manual pantograph, etc. Dale was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2002. He spent over a month in the hospital and lost fifty-five pounds. This slowed down his cuemaking for a while, but he is now almost fully recovered. Dale now makes under 100 cues a year by hand in his one man shop, many of which are hustler cues for local players. He likes to use exotic woods in the butt caps, which are marked "Breland". Dale´s "Native American Series" feature Native American materials, themes, and colors. These cues include beadwork, wraps made of lacework, and Native American images. Breland Cues are guaranteed for life against manufacturing defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse. If you have a Breland cue that needs further identification or repair, or would like to order a new Breland cue, contact Breland Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
