Maker of pool cues from 1998to 2003 in Red Bud, Illinois, and from 2003 to present in Smithton, Illinois.
Travis Niklich began playing pool at age 19, being taught by BCA instructor Mark Wilson. Travis became fascinated with how cues were made. He worked in his father´s wood shop starting at age eight. He attended several pool competitions and was interested in the on-site repairs and construction of cues. Travis started repairing cues at the age of 21 and decided to start making cues within six months. He was inducted into the American Cuemakers Association at the age of 24, in March of 2002. Andy Gilbert and Ron Haley have inspired Travis and helped him learn the trade.
Travis likes to make traditional style cues, especially with butterfly splices. He makes everything except for the screw, the tip, and the bumper. Travis makes his own short splice blanks with a manual pantograph in his one man shop. If he gets a CNC machine, it will be for inlays only. He prefers to make cues that are not too elaborate. Scrimshaw is available from a local artist. Travis only uses the radial joint pin with phenolic, ivory, or wood collars. Travis will not make a cue with a stainless steel joint. He makes cues part time when away from his full time job as a pressman for a St. Louis newspaper. Blackcreek Cues can be identified the "Travis Niklich" signature and date.
Black Creek cues are guaranteed for life against material and workmanship defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse.
If you are interested in talking to Travis Niklich about a new cue or cue that needs to be repaired, you can contact him at Blackcreek Custom Cues, listed in the Trademark Index.
