Company Information

"That’s all?" is the typical response we get from people after we tell them how many employees we have. Putting out so many books, CD-ROMs, and online subscription updates in the course of a year is not for the weak or timid. These are the faces behind the deeds. Everyone is very good at what they do and can be contacted directly by email. Needless to say, nobody’s exactly sitting around waiting for something to do!

Also included at the end of this file is a history of Blue Book Publications, Inc. You may want to look at this to get up-to-date on our company history and past developments and accomplishments.

History of Blue Book Publications, Inc. and its products

Blue Book Publications, Inc., is an S-type corporation located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We specialize in source information, including up-to-date pricing for firearms, guitars/amps, and the billiards/pool cue industries. Our products are available in a variety of formats, including books, CD-ROMs, online subscriptions, and downloads.

1980/1981 – The Very Beginning

The first title, the Blue Book of Gun Values was released in 1980 by Investment Rarities, a Minneapolis-based gold and silver company owned by Jim Cook.

The very first edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values had a mere 352 pages and was published without any kind of computer. Now a collector’s item, this first edition is hard to find, and a copy in good condition is now worth about eight times its original retail price.

The Blue Book of Gun Values continued to be published annually, with a total of nine editions published by Investment Rarities. These first nine editions are generally hard to find on the secondary market, and the first few are especially sought after.

1989 – A New Company

In 1989, Blue Book Publications, Inc. was formed, and the publication of the Blue Book of Gun Values was transferred from Investment Rarities to this new company.

The Blue Book of Guitars™ research also started in 1989, when a friend of S.P. Fjestad’s died, and his widow wanted him to give her a fair price for his three guitars. Four years later, the First Edition of the Blue Book of Pool Cue Values™ was published. This book has since been revised eight times (a total of nine editions as of 2005) and has gone on to two separate volumes – the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars™ and the Blue Book of Electric Guitars™.

1991

In October of 1991, Blue Book Publications, Inc., began publishing the CADA Gun Journal magazine. It continued to be published until 1998.

1993 – The Book of Colt Firearms

The Book of Colt Firearms™, now out of print, written by R.L. Wilson, was published in its second edition by Blue Book Publications, Inc. This book is very popular among collectors, and is also hard to find.

1994 – The Year of the Cue

The Blue Book of Pool Cues™ started in 1994, when Brad Simpson, a contributing editor for the Blue Book of Gun Values™, suggested that a similar format would be useful for evaluating both new and vintage pool cues. This book is now in its third edition, and both of the first two editions are sold out and very sought after by collectors.

The Classic Sporting Collectibles auction catalogs were published in 1994 and 1995.

1995

Mossberg – More Gun for the Money, by Victor and Cheryl Havlin, was published in 1995. The CSC Pocket Guide (still available) was also published in 1995.

1996 – The Billiard Encyclopedia

In 1996, the co-authors of The Billiard Encyclopedia™, Victor Stein and Paul Rubino, who are also the co-editors of the Blue Book of Pool Cues™, decided to let Blue Book Publications, Inc., reprint the book as a second edition, with changes and updates. This oversized, 10-pound tome, printed with Austrian paper and specially formulated inks, resulted in the finest book ever published by Blue Book Publications, Inc.

1997/1998 – Dennis Alder & GunTracker

In 1997, the publisher was introduced to Dennis Adler, a noted automotive writer and photographer, who also has a strong interest in black powder guns, shooting, and related events. This collaboration led to publishing Colt Blackpowder Reproductions & Replicas – A Collector’s & Shooter’s Guide in 1998. It finished second in the annual Small Press Book Awards for Best Reference Book.

During 1998, Blue Book Publications, Inc. released the first sophisticated CD-ROM computer inventory program for firearms – GunTracker. This software utilized the database from the Blue Book of Gun Values™, and it was quickly acclaimed by such firearms experts as Jim Carmichel, shooting editor for Outdoor Life, and Jack Heath, historian for Remington Arms Co.

Also, our Fourth Edition Blue Book of Guitars was awarded the prestigious Small Press Book Award for Best Reference Book during a ceremony at the 1998 Chicago Book Expo.

1999 – More Pool Cues

The Second Edition of the popular Blue Book of Pool Cues was published in 1999, and this remains the only publication that provides information specifically on pool cues.

2000 – The Nethercutt Collection & Modern Black Powder

As Peter Jennings helped us usher in the new millennium, Blue Book Publications, Inc. released one of the finest automotive books ever published, The Nethercutt Collection – The Cars of San Sylmar, written and photographed by Dennis Adler. This 228-page hardcover book was a visual masterpiece showcasing one of the finest car museums in the world. No expense was spared to make it one of the most stunning automotive coffee table books available. In November 2000, this book was also released in a CD-ROM version (sold out).

A fourth Blue Book title, the First Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values™, also by Dennis Adler, was published in June of 2000. This 200-page title (with both color and black and white photos) is the most up-to-date publication on the growing field of modern black powder firearms.

2001 – A Busy Year!

The 22nd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values was released in April, 2001. Featuring WWII hero and past NRA President Joe Foss on the cover, this book was by far the most popular edition ever. A 22nd Special NRA Limited Edition was sold by Blue Book Publications, Inc., and the NRA to raise money for the National Firearms Museum.

Blue Book Publications, Inc. became a sponsor for the National Firearms Museum Endowment during 2001, and is currently sponsoring the Presidential Pieces & Royal Guns of Royal Houses exhibit. If you are in the Washington, D.C. area, be sure to visit the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, VA.

Also in 2001, Blue Book Publications, Inc., became a sponsor of the National Shooting Sports Foundation Shooting & Hunting Heritage Fund. Keeping the hunting and shooting traditions alive and safe for all has never been more important, and Blue Book Publications, Inc. will continue to do its part to preserve this important part of our traditions.

Online access to the Blue Book of Gun Values finally became a reality in 2001. Customers can now download sections from the Blue Book of Gun Values, or the entire book. The significance of this online informational source is underlined by the fact that Davidson’s, a major firearms distributor, is now a web affiliate, and directs all its firearms informational questions and potential appraisals to e-commerce on Blue Book Publications, Inc.’s website.

The First Edition Blue Book of Airguns by Dennis Adler, edited by Dr. Robert Beeman and S.P. Fjestad, was released at the NRA Show in May, 2001, and sold out in a hurry!

Additionally, the 7th Editions of the Blue Book of Electric Guitars and the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars were published in early September of 2001, and a CD-ROM version with a sophisticated guitar/amp inventory program followed shortly thereafter. Possibly the biggest news of the year was when the guitar book databases were launched successfully as an online subscription. This allows anyone with Internet access to purchase downloads and online subscriptions to access information whenever it’s convenient for them. Good information never sleeps!

GunTracker 2.2 was released in September 2001. Containing many improvements over previous versions, including speed, reports, and a clearer format, version 2.2 provided consumers with the best pricing and value information available, and helped to keep track of their collections.

2002 – Online Subscriptions

The biggest news for 2002 was that Blue Book Publications, Inc. introduced its online subscription services for all the Blue Books. These include the Blue Book of Gun Values, Blue Book of Airguns, Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values, Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars, Blue Book of Electric Guitars, Blue Book of Guitar Amplifiers and Blue Book of Pool Cues. For more information on these products, please see the corresponding categories in this catalog or visit our website at www.bluebookinc.com.

Once again, Blue Book Publications, Inc., published a Special NRA Limited Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values, featured publishing magnate Robert E. Petersen on the cover. All proceeds went to our NRA Museum Endowment.

Additionally, the 23rd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values featured an article on outgoing NSSF President Robert Delfay. A Special NSSF Limited Edition was also available, with all proceeds going to the National Shooting Sports Foundation Shooting & Hunting Heritage Fund.

2003 – More Revised Editions

Several titles, including the 3rd Editions of the Blue Book of Airguns and the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values, had their printed format expanded to 8½ x 11 inches.

The 24th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values was expanded to nearly 1,800 pages featuring over 175,000 firearms prices. The cover featured Outdoor Life Shooting Editor Jim Carmichel, an icon of the shooting industry. The 24th Edition had a special tribute to William B. Ruger, Sr., and Joe Foss, as well as editorial on the Godfather of the Modern Rifle, Mikhail Kalashnikov, by firearms journalist David Fortier.

The 3rd Edition Blue Book of Airguns, written by Dr. Robert Beeman and John Allen, edited by S.P. Fjestad, remained the only value and pricing guide available for airguns.

The 3rd Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Values, by John Allen, was updated with additional color sections, including a stunning 32-page tribute to Flintlocks by America’s Artisan Gunmakers by Dennis Adler. Al Raychard wrote a very informative and through article on in-line muzzleloading, and noted firearms historian and author R.L. Wilson contributed an article on the transition from flintlock to percussion ignition.

The 8th Editions of the Blue Book of Electric Guitars and Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars and the 2nd Edition Blue Book of Guitar Amplifiers by Zachary Fjestad were released in September of 2003. These music industry titles remain the only Blue Books on the subject to include values, images and serialization information. Perhaps the most significant change on the guitar and amp books was the introduction of a database “tool”, where information and pricing are entered into a database format. This was a significant change on how we publish books, because all previous titles were completed in a traditional software publishing program, such as Framemaker and Ventura Publishing. This new “tool” enables us to print books, burn CD-ROMs, and make online subscriptions and downloads available from one database with no conversions.

2004 – The Millionth Book

The 25th Anniversary Edition Blue Book of Gun Values reached a milestone in November, 2004. Over one million copies of this title are now in circulation worldwide, making this one of the most popular firearms titles ever published. This 1,864-page book, featuring the 64-page color Photo Percentage Grading System (PPGS), continues to be the “bible” of the firearms industry. This edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values also set a new sales record.

Also during 2004, Blue Book Publications, Inc. published the 4th edition Blue Book of Airguns and the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms by John Allen.

The 3rd edition of The Nethercutt Collection - The Cars of San Sylmar by Dennis Adler was published in November. Physically larger than the 2nd edition, this newest edition contains another 32 pages, including one of the museum’s newest restorations – a large steam locomotive with tender and Clara Baldwin Stocker’s personal Pullman, which was custom ordered during 1912. Whenever in the Sylmar, California area, make sure you see this outstanding museum. There is no charge for admission, but small children and blue jeans are not allowed, reservations are required, and the museum is closed Mondays.

During October 2004, the Condensed 1st Edition Blue Book of Guitars and Guitar Amplifiers was released. This was a condensed edition, combining the model and submodel listings of the guitar and amp books with updated pricing.

2005 – Five New Editions

During 2005, Blue Book Publications, Inc. released the following titles: the 26th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values (April), the 5th Edition Blue Book of Airguns (July), the 9th Edition Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars, and the 9th Edition Blue Book of Electric Guitars (May). Wrapping up 2005 was the long awaited 3rd edition Blue Book of Pool Cues by Brad Simpson. This newest 800-page softcover achieved immediate success and probably has more international appeal than any other Blue Book title, especially on the Pacific Rim.

Another exciting event was the update and revision of the publishing “tool.” This updated application became sophisticated enough to be able to handle all our gun, guitar, and pool cue titles. The biggest advantage of this type of publishing structure is that the database information can now populate the book product, CD-ROM, and our online applications without any reformatting or converting. Blue Book Publications, Inc. is the only company to use such an application. At the end of the year, much time was spent preparing for the new firearms inventory program. Developing the Blue Book of Guns Inventory Software Program took a lot of brainstorming, and the goal is to have a sophisticated inventory computer program that uses the database which includes information from the Blue Book of Gun Values, the Blue Book of Airguns, and the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms.

2006 – Happy New Year!

Not celebrating too long, many planning sessions and software development rung in the new year to make sure the rollout for Blue Book Publications, Inc.’s new proprietary software program, the Blue Book of Guns Inventory Software Program, wouldn’t fall behind its scheduled April release. Hundreds of hours of development time need to be wisely used to make sure this inventory program is everything it can be. This new product allows the user to inventory all their firearms and accessories, in addition to printing sophisticated reports. Available in April, it will be Blue Book Publications, Inc.’s most ambitious electronic product to date.

Also scheduled for April – Blue Book Publications, Inc. will be releasing the largest and most comprehensive Blue Book ever published on Planet Earth – the 2,008-page 27th edition Blue Book of Gun Values! The author has commented that he never thought that the page count would be larger than the year it was published! This monster edition will have new 2006 firearms models and up-to-date pricing. Post your calendar now, and get ready for an April release! Initial shipments will be completed by April 10th.

Scheduled for an early fall release are the 10th anniversary editions of the Blue Book of Electric Guitars and the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars by Zachary Fjestad. These two newest tomes will together weigh over 9 pounds and contain 1,700 pages of up-to-date information and pricing on both new and vintage guitars.

The 5th edition Blue Book of Airguns and the 4th edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms will remain current until 2007.

2007

A new year, and an unprecedented batch of new editions! We released the 3rd Edition Blue Book of Guitar Amplifiers (Jan.), the 6th Edition Blue Book of Airguns (March), the 28th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values (April), the 5th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms (late April), revised ISP (April), Gibson Flying V, 11th Editions of the Blue Book of Acoustic and Blue Book of Electric Guitars (Nov.), and our flagship project – the stunning new coffee table book, Gianfranco Pedersoli – Master Engraver.

2008

2008 was another productive year for Blue Book Publications, Inc. with the release of several new titles as well as our typical reoccurring titles. The Seventh Edition Blue Book of Airguns was released in March – a year earlier than expected as the targeted printing run of two years ran out in half the time! At the Tulsa Guns & Arms show during the first weekend in April, the 29th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values was released as it is every year. In May, BBP released an updated version of the late Frank Sellers’ American Gunsmiths. The original version was printed in 1982 and we obtained Sellers’ master copy and updated it with several more listings than the previous edition. In June, we released a limited reprint of the popular Gibson Shipment Totals, which provides shipping information on almost all Gibson instruments between 1937 and 1979.

In July, we made a large change to our online subscriptions and individual download products on our website. Instead of selling PDF documents for individual manufacturers, which were often large and took an incredible amount of time to download, we began selling online subscriptions for individual models and manufacturers. In addition, we began offering 24-hour online subscriptions for a number of our products. Now you can get information and values the way you want it!

In October, three new Colt titles were released in time for the Colt Collectors Association meeting in Houston, TX including Black Powder Revolvers - Reproductions & Replicas by Dennis Adler, the 3rd Edition Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson, and the Blue Book Pocket Guide for Colt Dates of Manufacturer by R.L. Wilson and edited by John B. Allen. Also released in October was the second book in the Italian Master Engravers Series called Firmo & Francesca Fracassi. Finally, in November, we released the highly anticipated Ammo Encyclopedia by Michael Bussard and edited by John B. Allen and David Kosowski.

2009

2009 marks the 20th Anniversary (1989-2009) of Blue Book Publications and the 30th Anniversary Edition Blue Book of Gun Values! We continue to provide the most up-to-date reference and value guides as well as a variety of vanity publications and online products.

At the 2009 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, CA, we introduced a book written by Wallace Marx Jr. on Gibson amplifiers called Gibson Amplifiers 1933-2008 – 75 Years of the Gold Tone.

In February, we launched the revolutionary online inventory program for our music-related titles called Gear Tracker. Users can create an inventory of their musical instruments utilizing our online subscriptions and the values are updated automatically. Since this is a web-based program, there are no operating system compatibility issues and all information is stored on our secure servers.

In March, we introduced the 6th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms written by John B. Allen. This book is up to 288 pages and includes several hundred black powder arm images!

In April, the 30th Anniversary Edition Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad was again released at the Tulsa Arms Show. The Blue Book of Gun Values continues to be the industry leader for firearms information and values. It is expanded to a whopping 2,272 pages and over 1.3 million copies are currently in print!

In July, we released the 12th Editions of the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars and Blue Book of Electric Guitars by Zachary R. Fjestad and introduced them at the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, TN. These books have grown so much that we had to use thinner paper and we included a CD-ROM in each book that features every image from our acoustic and electric guitar databases!

In September, we launched a new version of ISP (previously called Inventory Software Program) based on Gear Tracker for the firearms industry. Users can create an inventory of their firearm, airgun, and modern black powder collection utilizing our online subscriptions and the values are updated automatically. Since this is a web-based program, there are no operating system compatibility issues and all information is stored on our secure servers.

In November, a sister title to the Black Powder Revolvers – Reproductions & Replicas was introduced called Black Powder Long Arms & Pistols – Reproductions & Replicas was introduced. Again written and photographed by Dennis Adler, this book won the bronze medal in the reference category for the 2010 Independent Publisher Book Awards.

2010

As we move into another decade, Blue Book Publications is excited to announce several new titles and our continued expansion into video and social media.

In January, during the 2010 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, we were proud to introduce the highly anticipated 2nd Edition Ammo Encyclopedia. The first edition sold out quickly, and instead of simply reprinting, we opted to update the book for a new edition. The 2nd Edition is organized more clearly and cartridge graphics are now standard. This 840-page book is the number one source for ammunition information and ballistics.

In February, we introduced a new mobile website designed specifically to work with mobile devices. With the popularity and convenience of our online subscriptions, a mobile website was needed to allow users access from their mobile devices. Obtaining current information and values is now literally at your fingertips!

In March, we introduced the third installment in Blue Book Publications’ Italian Master Engraver Series entitled Giancarlo & Stefano Pederetti – Master Engravers by Stephen Lamboy & Elena Michelli Lamboy, edited by S.P. Fjestad. This series has become very popular for those who respect the highly artistic nature of engraving, and two deluxe versions of the book were available as well.

What has become an anticipated annual tradition, the new 2,320-page 31st Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values was introduced at the Spring Tulsa Arms show in April. Gracing the cover this year is legendary gunleather expert John Bianchi, who along with author S.P. Fjestad signed 1,500 copies during the three-day show. We also introduced the 2nd Edition Blue Book of Tactical Firearms, which includes all of the tactical or “black” guns from the Blue Book of Gun Values in a smaller 8.5 x 11 inch format.

May was the month of the airgun at Blue Book Publications. The “Godfather of the Airgun Industry” Dr. Robert D. Beeman flew into Minneapolis and filmed a number of segments for our expansion into video media. Over Mother’s Day weekend, we filmed several episodes that will be slowly introduced to the new part of our website called “Blue Book University” (we are also on YouTube as well). Just as we were beginning to film on Friday afternoon, the new 8th Edition Blue Book of Airguns by John B. Allen and Beeman arrived at our warehouse. This 568-page book is the only publication solely dedicated to airguns and their values. With several hundred images, this title continues to be the best source for airgun information and values in the industry.

In July, we introduced a new title on the most collectible guitar amp combo of all time entitled The Marshall Bluesbreaker – The Story of Marshall’s First Combo. Written by longtime Bluesbreaker enthusiast John R. Wiley, this book chronicles the entire history of the Bluesbreaker as well as the Mini Bluesbreaker and a section on how to convert Marshall’s Bluesbreaker Reissue into a Clapton-spec Bluesbreaker!

In August, we introduced an entirely new version of our website designed for easier navigation and to allow space for our growing catalog of titles. New portions of our website include Blue Book University and forms for those interested in contributing.

In September, the long awaited 4th Edition Blue Book of Guitar Amplifiers by Zachary R. Fjestad was introduced. Nearly four years since the last edition was published, this book has grown to 752 pages with hundreds of amplifier images!

In October, a new biography on John Bianchi was released called John Bianchi – An American Legend, 50 Years of Gunleather. This full-color landscape-profile book by Dennis Adler tells the entire history of Bianchi, considered to be the Godfather of gunleather.

Other upcoming titles and projects for Blue Book Publications for 2010 include a new color landscape book similar to our Master Engraver Series entitled American Engravers – the 21st Century by C. Roger Bleile that we anticipate in December. Titles on the docket for 2011 include the 7th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms, the 32nd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values, and the 13th Editions of the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars and Blue Book of Electric Guitars.

2011

As Blue Book Publications enters its 22nd year as a company, we continue to see enormous growth in the area of the web and video.

Blue Book Publications kicked off 2011 by releasing our newest engraving book called American Engravers – The 21st Century two days after the New Year holiday. This gorgeous 360-page full-color book by C. Roger Bleile showcases more than forty of America’s finest living engravers.

Later in January, we introduced the 3rd Edition of the Ammo Encyclopedia at the 2011 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Ammunition continues to be extremely popular and manufacturers roll out new calibers yearly, making the Ammo Encyclopedia nearly an annual publication. New for the 3rd Edition was the inclusion of ballistics charts.

The 32nd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad was released once again at the Spring Tulsa Show on April 1, 2011. This year’s cover features Frank Brownell, owner of Brownell’s, and S.P. Fjestad signed over 1,000 books at the weekend gun show. We also released the 3rd Edition of the Blue Book of Tactical Firearms and the 32nd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values on CD-ROM.

In May, we released the 9th Edition Blue Book of Airguns. Expanded to 616-pages, this book has become an annual publication. We also shot a pilot for a proposed new TV Series featuring Blue Book of Gun Values author S.P. Fjestad titled Under The Gun. They spent an entire weekend filming us at our office, visiting Paglisi’s Gun Emporium in Duluth, and having a company barbeque and target shoot at John Allen’s residence. It was an exhausting weekend, but we certainly learned a lot about filming and video.

In June, we released the 7th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms. While this book has not become an annual publication yet, it is still the source for all black powder guns produced since 1958.

In July, Blue Book Publications moved to a larger and more sophisticated office within the same office building. After 14 years in Suite #175, we had simply outgrown our space and were bursting at the seams. Our new office a floor up in Suite #250 is nearly 50% larger than our old one! We were able to consolidate all of our archives (old gun catalogs and brochures) and create a state-of-the-art library and research area in the middle of our new office. Our commitment to providing you with the most up-to-date and accurate information and values now takes much less time than before!

In September, we published an all-new book called The Book of Colt Paper, which catalogs the cover images for nearly every Colt catalog ever produced, including Colt business cards, pamphlets, and other paper-related Colt items. This book was introduced at the Colt Collector’s Association Show in Kansas City, MO.

In October, we introduced the 13th Editions Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars and Blue Book of Electric Guitars. With a spine thickness of well over 2 inches, the 13th Edition Blue Book of Electric Guitars is the thickest book we have ever published! These books were also released in a CD-ROM version as well.

In December, the fourth book in the Italian Master Engraver Series was released called Mario Terzi – Master Engraver. Similar to the other books in the Italian Master Engraver Series, this deluxe hardcover book features the engraving works of Mario Terzi. We also only produced a deluxe limited edition of this book, complete with a slip case and signature plate marked “one of one thousand.”

2012

Now in its 23rd year as a company, Blue Book Publications had a lot of changes and new products to introduce this year.

In spring, we split up our three specialties (firearms, guitars, and pool cues) into three separate websites:
www.bluebookofgunvalues.com
www.bluebookofguitarvalues.com
www.bluebookofpoolcuevalues.com

This change allowed us to present more information to our customers on their specific field of interest. This way, firearms customers will only see blogs, products, and information on firearms, and so on for guitars and pool cues.

Keeping with that theme, we have also split up our social media efforts into separate divisions as well. It’s fun to follow us for exclusive photos, videos, and other content not available anywhere else.
YouTube: BlueBookGuitarValues or BlueBookofGunValues
Facebook: Blue Book of Gun Values or Blue Book of Guitar Values
Twitter: @FirearmValues or @GuitarValues

In April, we released the highly-anticipated 33rd Edition Blue Book of Gun Values, featuring the NRA’s Executive Vice President, Wayne LaPierre. This edition was ready in time for the Spring Tulsa Show on March 31, 2012.

In May, the 10th Anniversary Edition Blue Book of Airguns was released. The First Edition was originally published in 2001, and it has remained the industry leader for up-to-date airgun values and information. Additionally, Blue Book Publications, Inc. recognized MidwayUSA and its founder and CEO, Larry Potterfield, with its first ever sales award, a lifetime sales achievement award that was presented during the 2012 NRA Annual Meeting & Convention in St. Louis, MO.

In June, we celebrated the first official Blue Book Company Shoot Out. It was a fun day full of guns, grilling, and great camaraderie amongst coworkers.

In August, we released the 4th Edition Ammo Encyclopedia. New for this edition was a color section depicting several types of cartridges in life size. This publication continues to be a popular source on both current and obsolete cartridges and shotshells.

In September, we released the 2nd Edition of the Blue Book Pocket Guide for Colt Dates of Manufacture. This popular title was updated to the larger 4 ¼ x 7 in. format and includes new information and corrections from the 1st Edition.

In October, we introduced new editions of our popular guitar value guides: the 14th Editions Blue Book of Electric Guitars and Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars. There is no better source out there for up-to-date values and information on new, recently-manufactured, and vintage guitars.

At the end of the year, we introduced a new type of product: a pocket guide that covers the values and serialization for one specific manufacturer. We tested this new product with the Paul Reed Smith Pocket Guide, and in the 4 ¼ x 7 in. format, it covers up-to-date values on Paul Reed Smith electric guitars, acoustic guitars, basses, and guitar amplifiers, plus PRS serialization. We plan on expanding this line of products on the firearms side as well.

2013
In its 24th year as a company, Blue Book Publications released a lot of new products.

In April, we released the 34th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values. This edition was ready in time for the Spring Tulsa Show. We also updated and released a new 4th Edition Blue Book of Tactical Firearms Values. This updated edition featured even more tactical firearms and information than previous editions. This was also the first year we released our pocket-sized value guides. At 4 ¼ x 7 inches, they are the perfect size for bringing anywhere, and they are available on Browning, Colt, Remington, Smith & Wesson, Sturm Ruger, and Winchester.

In May, we released the 8th Edition Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms: the source for all black powder guns produced since 1959.

In June, we hit the range for another Blue Book Company Shoot Out. It was a fun day full of shooting a variety of firearms.

Also that summer, Blue Book Publications, Inc. published a title by Mark Wilson and Donald Wardell, M.D. entitled Play Great Pool: The Definitive Textbook for Teaching Yourself the Sport of Pocket Billiards. This was a new venture for us as a vanity publishing company, as we were simply the publisher of this title.

In September, we published a new title, L.C. Smith Production Records – The Numbers Behind the Legend by James Stubbendieck. It is the only book that utilizes the factory production records in breaking down these models into how many were manufactured per year, what gauges they were produced in, the various barrel lengths, and in most cases, the totals of the various options available.

In October, we continued the trend of publishing new and interesting titles with B.B. King’s Lucille and the Loves Before Her by Eric E. Dahl. This title takes us on a musical journey through B.B. King’s guitars and music gear from his youth through today. B.B. King himself wrote the foreword to this fascinating book!

2014
Celebrating its 25th year as a company, Blue Book Publications had another busy year of creating new and updated products.

In April, the 35th Anniversary Edition Blue Book of Gun Values, by S.P. Fjestad, was released, featuring an engraved Colt Single Action Army revolver on a background of gold coins. In addition to the Blue Book of Gun Values, the updated 5th Edition Blue Book of Tactical Firearms Values was also released, providing up-to-date values on tactical firearms. Because of the success of the pocket-sized value guides, the company also released new Second Edition Blue Book Pocket Guides for Browning, Colt, Remington, Smith & Wesson, Sturm Ruger, and Winchester, plus a new edition for Beretta firearms.

In May, the new 11th Edition Blue Book of Airguns, by Dr. Robert D. Beeman and John B. Allen, was released. It is the most up-to-date value guide on airguns available, and it features hundreds of black and white images of airguns.

Also that summer, Blue Book Publications released the new 5th Edition of its popular title, Ammo Encyclopedia. The additional title of "For All Rimfire and Centerfire Cartridges, Plus Shotshells!" was added to this year’s edition, providing additional clarification on everything the Ammo Encyclopedia covers.

In the fall, the highly-anticipated 15th Edition Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars and Blue Book of Electric Guitars, by Zachary R. Fjestad, were released. These expansive books provide over a combined 2,300 pages of information on new, vintage, and modern guitars.
